The red carpet was rolled out and the cameras were flashing as over 200 folks arrived at The Junior League of Houston to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Douglas L. Williams Alumni Chapter/Grambling University National Alumni Association, Inc. 2009 Black & Gold Gala and Silent Auction.

The gala benefits the DLW Scholarship & Charitable Foundation, Inc. that has been established to assist students attending the university with much-needed scholarships.  During the program, a $100,000 check was presented by the Endowment Committee members, Veronica Johnson, Angelee Rhyne, Barbara Hudson, Susan Feazell and others.

To the surprise of the audience, Dr. Michael D. McKinley, Executive Assistant to the President of Grambling State University, announced that the university would match the endowment.  With $200,000 in the bank, they are now able to assist even more students desiring a higher education.  Awards were presented to several members for their outstanding contributions.

Special recognition was given to the Honorary Chairman, Kerry Briggs for his financial support and leadership in achieving the endowment’s goal.  Ms. Chag was once again delighted to serve as Madame Toastmistress for this event.  After everyone enjoyed a great meal, the world’s greatest DJ, Keith Bynam, had them dancing for hours.  In the mix were Event Chairs, Regina and Ronald Jackson, DLW Chapter President Dwight Moore, Lionel Feazell, Rev. Lamon Atkins, Willup Garrett, Keith Collins, Kaye Walker, Capt. Paul and Bobbie Matthews, Diane and John Carter, Marilyn and John Hines, Khadijah Polly, Fonda Chapman, Keith Williams, George Rhyne, Oliver Bonner, Dennis S. Brown, Mona and Guy Davis and Sabrina and Kevin Lewis, to name a few.

Continued Success!
