IT’S MARDI GRAS TIME…….

The Southern University Houston Alumni Chapter and their guests -all 789 of them – certainly know how to start the Mardi Gras season.  Their 29th Annual Mardi Gras Scholarship Gala honored several individuals, including Lt. General Russel Honore’ who received the 2010 Jaguar of the Year Award.

Other honorees were Barbara Jack recipient of the Clyde V. Warner Sr. Lifetime Service Award, Patricia Bynum received the Years of Service-Veteran Award, Dennis Frasier, Years of Service-Emergent Award, David Stephens, Career Excellence Award, Victor Hawkins, Raymond & Shirley Sewell, Sponsor of the Year Award, Millette Clayton, Rookie of the Year Award and Kelvin Love was the 2010 Grand Marshal.

The success of this event was written all over the smiling face of its president, Dennis S. Brown and gala chairperson, Denise Armstrong. The Houston Chapter is revered as one of the most successful and long-lived chapters in the Alumni and will award a record number of scholarships to assist their great university in acquiring the caliber of students that Houston’s finest schools produce.

Spotted in the mix were Ann Bosman, Dana Chargois, Barbara Brown, Sonya and Pastor Byron Stevenson, Tracye Taylor-Jerrell, James Brown, Genny and Abner Brown, Dana and Huey Beckham, Mechelle Johnson, Alma Askins-Rowe, Lionel and Sue Feazell and Michelle Hill, to name a few.  LaRence Snowden and Isiah Carey served as masters of ceremony and the music was provided by the hardest working deejay in town, Keith Bynam of Bynam Entertainment.
